PHILIP TRAMMELL SHUTZE AWARDS
The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art Southeast Chapter (ICAA SE) is pleased to announce the Call for Submissions for the 20th Annual Shutze Awards Design Competition recognizing excellence in classical and traditional design.
The awards are named for Philip Trammell Shutze, 1890-1982, the Atlanta architect whose work is revered internationally as one of the Twentieth century’s most devoted classicists. Shutze, a Georgia native, received his architectural training at the Georgia School of Technology, Columbia University, and the American Academy in Rome. While at the American Academy, Shutze joined teams of sculptors, painters, architects, and landscape architects to field measure Roman, Renaissance, and Baroque buildings and gardens. His lengthy career included approximately 750 projects, with favorite styles ranging from Italian Baroque to English Regency and American Georgian. In 1982, Philip Shutze received the inaugural Arthur Ross Award from then Classical America, now ICAA.
The Southeast Chapter’s Shutze Award entries aim to recognize similar individuals. Those who are contributing to the creation of 21st-century classical and traditional architecture and related fields. Both small and large-scale projects are considered for the Shutze Awards.
