Social Sketching:

The May Patterson Goodrum House

August 22nd, 2026 ~ 10:00 AM- 1:00 PM

Join The Guild, GA Saturday, August 22nd, at 10 am for Social Sketching at the May Patterson Goodrum House. All experience levels are welcome. Coffee and breakfast pastries will be provided, all you need to bring is a pencil and a sketchbook

Designed in 1929 by Philip Trammell Shutze, the May Patterson Goodrum House was considered to be his favorite project, perhaps due to the fact he more than likely had free-rein over its design and decoration. Upon its completion in 1930, the design earned an honorable mention by the Architecture League of New York, a first for Shutze and a rare recognition by the League for southern architecture. If anything, the prize was an overdue accolade for a designer of national importance and for a city consciously striving to shed its undeserved provincial southern identity. It did serve as a milestone of remarkable achievement for the architect recognized as the creator of Atlanta’s finest built environment and lauded as America’s foremost classicist.

This is a free event, but registration is required.

Quattuor Lecture:

Building on Tradition

The Work of Curtis & Windham, Architects

August 26, 2026 ~ 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM ~ Birmingham, AL
August 27, 2026 ~ 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM ~ Atlanta, GA

Over the last three decades, Curtis & Windham Architects have built a reputation as one of the country’s leading architecture firms, crafting some of the finest residences and buildings in Texas and transforming the city of Houston, particularly its River Oaks neighborhood, through a fresh and inventive approach to classical design.

Unlike many notable architecture firms that are known for a singular style, Curtis & Windham is skilled in a variety of architectural vernaculars. They design residences that are suited not only to their clients’ lifestyles but to the place in which they stand. It’s their unique ability to translate history for modern living that distinguishes them as one of today’s most sought-after architecture firms.

Founded in Houston in 1992 by William Curtis and Russell Windham, Curtis & Windham’s practice emphasizes the principles of both historic and modern design, as well as the circumstance of each project.

Please join the ICAA SE as we welcome William Curtis and Russell Windham as they delve into this philosophy, illustrating how it informs the firm’s superb architectural approach across diverse styles and scales in their new book , Building on Tradition (Rizzoli, Fall 2025), which will be available for purchase and signings.

The Elements of Classical Architecture:

Advanced Interior Mouldings

September 19, 2026 ~ 9:00 AM- 2:00 PM

Mouldings play a central role in the articulation of exterior and interior architecture. Through careful calibration of scale, and with respect to the function of individual elements within an ensemble, mouldings contribute to the coherence of a composition and help make the individual components of a design intelligible. This course explores the grammar that guides the selection, combination, sequencing, and application of mouldings within an architectural composition.

Topics covered will include: formal considerations in the design and use of mouldings; methods of proportioning mouldings with focus on unique aspects related to interior conditions; the enrichment of mouldings through ornament; the character of mouldings associated with various architectural traditions; and an introduction to key references and resources. The class concludes with an opportunity to design a family of moulding profiles for an interior room.

This course is an intermediate level course prerequisite “ICAA Introduction to Moulding” course or that the participant has a basic understanding of the common moulding profiles and their typical applications.
